Safety, Health and Wellbeing

From Wyld West Wiki

Wyld West LARP values the safety, health, and wellbeing of all attendees and volunteers. We aim to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy our events within a supportive, secure environment.

There are two primary aspects to our approach:

  • **Physical safety** of attendees and volunteers on-site and during the game.
  • **Health and wellbeing** (mental, emotional, and physical) of all attendees and volunteers throughout their time at Wyld West LARP events.

General Support and Safety

  • Any attendee is encouraged to approach a member of staff if they have concerns.
  • A dedicated Event Team is present at every event, based in the Event Hut (marked on the event map). The Event Hut is staffed 24 hours a day for out-of-character (OOC) assistance.
  • This team also responds to call-outs around the site. If you need help at any time, speak to any staff member.
  • If you prefer to speak with a staff member of a specific gender or identity, please let us know, and we will do our utmost to accommodate this.
  • All events are attended by qualified first aiders, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines on ratios.

Behaviour and Boundaries

  • Any behaviour that causes another attendee to feel uncomfortable, concerned, frightened, sad, pressured, or otherwise negatively affects their wellbeing should be reported to staff. This applies at events and within all official Wyld West LARP online spaces.
  • All attendees must respect the personal boundaries of others. If someone asks you to stop a behaviour or action, you must stop immediately.
  • Outside of IC combat, physical contact must be consensual. Always seek clear consent before initiating physical interaction.
  • During battles or combat, if someone raises their hands or disengages, they may have an OOC concern or be a non-combatant. Be mindful and raise any concerns with staff.

Harassment

The following forms of harassment are not acceptable under any circumstances:

Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment refers to unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature which violates someone’s dignity or creates a hostile, degrading, or offensive environment.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Unwanted touching
  • Sexual name-calling or comments
  • Inappropriate jokes or conversation
  • Continuing to interact after being asked to stop

Physical Harassment

Physical harassment involves physical attacks, threats, or unwanted gestures. While intentions may vary, the impact is determined by the recipient.

Examples include:

  • Pushing, shoving, or grabbing
  • Moving another person
  • Any form of violence

Psychological Harassment

Psychological harassment includes behaviours that affect someone’s emotional or psychological wellbeing.

Examples include:

  • Bullying or intimidation
  • Manipulation
  • Threatening language

In all cases, the person experiencing the behaviour has the right to raise it, and the individual responsible must stop immediately when asked.

Romantic Roleplay and Emotional Intensity

  • If characters engage in a romantic relationship, all parties must explicitly agree to the terms of the roleplay.
  • Emotional roleplay can be intense. If you are uncomfortable with a scene, you have the right to step away.
  • Respect others’ need to disengage from emotionally charged scenes.

Clothing and Public Decency

  • Participants must remain clothed in public areas at all times.
  • As a minimum, clothing must cover the body to the same extent as swimwear appropriate for a beach or swimming pool.

Special Effects and Medical Concerns

  • Pyrotechnics and smoke effects may be used during battles and skirmishes, outside camp areas.
  • Smaller effects (e.g. incense, small explosions) may be used around camp.
  • If you are affected by any of these effects, please inform us via your booking form under ‘medical conditions’.

Breaches and Consequences

Breaching this policy, the Code of Conduct, or any other Wyld West LARP rule may result in:

  • Being asked to leave the site
  • A temporary or permanent ban from events
