Saxum's Calendar

From Wyld West Wiki

The calendar is divided into 13 months, each consisting of 28 days. There is one special day in the middle of the year that does not belong to any month. This day, known as Reforming Day, falls between the sixth and seventh months. Since the year has 365 days, the government designated this day as a national holiday to mark the establishment of the new Saxum government, while retiring the old, outdated calendar.

Each month begins on Sunday the first and ends on Saturday the 28th. Reforming Day is celebrated nationwide across Saxum.

The year is divided into four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, each lasting 13 weeks.

Throughout the year, several holidays are observed and marked on the calendar. The 28th day of the sixth month signifies the end of the tax year.

The current year is 225 NC (New Calendar). Dates before this are referred to as BNC (Before New Calendar). Older calendars may feature dates such as 1602 AM (Age of Might). The last calendar using the old system was dated 1800 AM.

Seasons of the Year

Spring: Beginning on the 1st of the First Month, spring brings temperate weather with regular rainfall. Bare branches burst into life with fresh greenery. Seeds take root, plants grow, and spring flowers bloom. Animals that have been hibernating awaken, relying on stored food to quickly regain strength.

Summer: Starting on the 8th of the Fourth Month, summer is the warmest season. Temperatures often reach 30°C or higher, sometimes for days or even weeks. Such heat can pose challenges for plants, animals, and people alike. Droughts may cause water shortages, and the elderly and vulnerable risk dehydration.

Fall: From the 15th of the Seventh Month, temperatures begin to cool. Trees change colour and shed their leaves, while animals gather and store food for the winter ahead. Many birds migrate to warmer regions. Crops ripen and are harvested, and daylight hours gradually shorten. In many parts of Saxum, harvest festivals are celebrated during this season.

Winter: Starting on the 22nd of the Tenth Month, winter brings cold air and often persistent snow cover. People bundle up in thick coats, scarves, hats, and gloves. Animals adapt by hibernating, storing food, or growing thicker fur to endure the harsh conditions.
