The spirit of the game

The spirit of Wyld West is something intangible but deeply important to us. At its heart, it means not playing to win—this is live roleplay, where there are no prizes and no singular path to victory. Instead, we want players and crew to work together to tell compelling stories, embracing both triumphs and tragedies along the way.
We encourage players to stay true to their characters, acting as they would within the world of Saxum. Character death is not the end—it’s an opportunity to create something new and exciting.
Wyld West operates on trust, with mechanics such as timed death counts and wound tracking. Cheating these small things diminishes the experience for everyone. We ask that you play with honesty and integrity, making bold choices while always considering the experience of others as well as your own. Ultimately, the spirit of the game is about collaboration, immersion, and respect—for the world, for the story, and for each other. Players put trust in us to create a fair and balanced world, and we put trust in you to bring it to life.

What Players Can Expect

Wyld West is a world of our own imagination, inspired by the aesthetics and themes of the mid-19th century Wild West and Victorian Britain, but set in the world of Saxum. Players can expect:

  • Horror, intrigue and mystery—dark secrets, strange happenings and hidden motives.
  • Drama, scandal and adventure—from whispered rumours in the saloon to high-stakes showdowns in the streets.
  • Politics, love and loss—alliances will be made and broken, fortunes won and squandered.
  • Comradery and rivalries—whether as loyal friends or bitter enemies, every interaction shapes the world.
  • Wealth and poverty—rags-to-riches stories, desperate struggles for survival and the ever-present lure of gold.
  • Deadly shootouts and close-up melee fights—duels at dawn, back-alley brawls and frontier justice.

This is a world shaped by your choices, your actions and your ambition. Whether you seek power, revenge, redemption or fortune, the frontier is waiting.

What Players Will Not See

While Wyld West draws inspiration from the aesthetics and themes of the mid-19th century Wild West and Victorian Britain, it is not set in the real world. There are aspects of history that we firmly reject including in our game, and we want to be clear about what will not be present:

  • The horrific realities of the time period, such as the slave trade and the genocide of indigenous people.
  • Sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other form of real-world discrimination. These real-world prejudices are harmful and have lasting serious effects to this day.
  • A direct historical setting. While we take inspiration from the era’s themes, fashion, and storytelling, Wyld West exists in a fictional world. We may incorporate elements from history, but we will never include or reference the real-world atrocities and prejudices mentioned above.

Our goal is to create an immersive, engaging, and welcoming experience for all players.

What We Would Like to See

There are so many things that we would love to see in this game. Wyld West is built on moments of cinematic action, heartfelt storytelling, and shared experiences, and we encourage players to embrace the setting and the spirit of the game. Some of the things we hope to see include:

  • Tense shootouts where every bullet counts.
  • Gunslingers with reputations to uphold.
  • Preachers delivering fiery sermons in the street.
  • A bustling world full of life, with players running everything from a coffee shop to a tailor’s shop, making the camp feel like a living, breathing place.
  • Card games played around tables in the saloon, fortunes made and lost in the turn of a hand.
  • Doctors and medics working together to patch up the wounded, far from the hospitals back home.
  • Characters who embrace the themes of the game—mystery, horror, politics, love and loss, camaraderie and rivalry, wealth and poverty.
  • Players who create cool, memorable moments together, building the world through their choices and actions.
  • Feasts and festivals celebrated in the camp, where the rich and poor alike come together to make the best of life on the frontier.

Above all, we want Wyld West to be a space where players tell incredible stories together, from the grand and dramatic to the deeply personal, taking part in a game where the journey matters far more than ‘winning.’

What We Would Not Like to See

There are a few things that do not fit within Wyld West’s world, either for thematic or practical reasons. We kindly ask players not to bring:

  • LARP Bows, crossbows, shields, or medieval weaponry—these do not belong in a Wild West setting.
  • LARP Fantasy weapons, chainmail, or outdated armour—this is a world of guns, knives, and grit, not knights and wizards.
  • LARP Flails or other unrealistic weapons—we prioritise safe and practical combat mechanics.
  • Modern LARP guns or weapons that don’t fit the era. Firearms should look appropriate to the mid-19th century. Please see our guide on weapons for more details.
  • Real weapons of any kind. If in doubt, don’t bring it.
  • Steampunk elements. While steampunk is often adjacent to this aesthetic, Wyld West is not a steampunk game. If an item raises the question, “Is this steampunk?” then the answer is yes, and we would kindly ask that it not be included.

Above all, we ask that players respect the game world and the effort put into making it immersive for everyone.

This vision represents the foundation of Wyld West—a game where players collaborate to create something truly special. By embracing the spirit of the game, respecting its boundaries, and bringing it to life with passion and creativity, we can make Wyld West an unforgettable experience for all.
