There may be situations where a player wishes to interrogate or torture another character for information. We encourage players to roleplay these scenarios in a way that fits their character while maintaining the spirit of the game. Monsters will be briefed separately on how to respond to interrogation.

For a character to be interrogated, they must be:

  • Conscious
  • Restrained (this can be through grappling, being bound with rope or manacles, or otherwise unable to freely leave the situation)
  • Able to speak/communicate

Some creatures and NPCs may be immune to interrogation, and the interrogator will be informed of this if applicable.

To resolve interrogation attempts, play a single round of Rock, Paper, Scissors between the interrogator and the victim:

  • If the interrogator wins, they can either ask one question, or inflict one point of damage and ask two questions. The victim must answer truthfully (to the best of their character’s ability).
  • If the victim wins, they successfully resist giving any information.
  • If it is a draw, the interrogator may choose to inflict one point of damage and ask one question, which the victim must answer truthfully. If the interrogator does not inflict damage, the victim resists giving information.

This can be repeated for a maximum of 10 rounds, or until the victim is reduced to zero hit points. At this stage, the interrogator has determined the victim has given all the information they can.

Players cannot be forced to give up information they do not have and should always roleplay appropriately based on their character’s resilience, personality, and the situation.

If the victim has the Hen-Hearted flaw, as soon as the interrogator inflicts any damage from Rock, Paper, Scissors, the victim must inform the interrogator and answer two questions per round for the remainder of the interrogation—without needing to play Rock, Paper, Scissors. These answers must be truthful (to the best of their character’s ability).

Please be mindful that players may want to explore the game world, and that crew members are needed for encounters, so try to keep interrogations to a reasonable length.
