Saxum maintains a standing Army and Navy to protect its interests both foreign and domestic. The States of Saxum are also allowed to raise their own Armies (but not Navies) and are known as Militias. Both Saxum and the States independently will often send armies overseas to participate in foreign wars as mercenaries.

=== The Army and Marines ===

The Armies of Saxum wear a blue uniform. The State Militias are allowed to wear the same colours but are also free to wear their own. As such, it is common for State Militias to comprise of Regiments with vastly different colour and style uniforms. One thing that is consistent is the Rank Insignia.

Marines are a part of the Navy but follow the Army's rank structure. The highest organisational level is Regiment, with every Company in a Regiment being assigned to a ship.

=== The Structure of the Army, Marines, and Militias ===

==== Corp ====
* Led by a '''Lieutenant General''', composed of 2-6 Divisions (approx. 36,000 soldiers).
* Infantry Corps are assigned 1 Artillery Brigade.
* Cavalry Corps are assigned 2 Artillery Brigades.

==== Division ====
* Led by a '''Major General''', composed of 2-6 Brigades (approx. 12,000 soldiers).

==== Brigade ====
* Led by a '''Brigadier General''', composed of 2-12 Regiments (approx. 12,000 soldiers).
* Artillery Brigades consist of between 4-6 Batteries, with the first 3 batteries assigned to a Corps, and the rest held in reserve.

==== Regiment ====
* Led by a '''Colonel''', composed of 10 Companies (approx. 1,000 soldiers).

==== Battalion ====
* Led by a '''Major''', composed of 5 companies (approx. 5,000 soldiers).

==== Company/Troop/Battery ====
* '''Company''' (Infantry/Marines) / '''Troop''' (Cavalry) / '''Battery''' (Artillery)

* Can be further broken down into 2 Platoons, each breaking into 2 Sections and finally into two Squads (total of 100 soldiers).
* Batteries consist of 6 Field Guns, broken down into 3 Sections of 2 Field Guns.

=== The Army and Marines Enlisted Rank Insignia ===

The colour of the chevrons and background varies by branch. Below is the description for the enlisted ranks, followed by images for clarity.

==== Infantry ====
* **Light blue stripes on navy blue background**.

==== Cavalry ====
* **Yellow stripes on navy blue background**.

==== Artillery ====
* **Red stripes on navy blue background**.

==== Marines ====
* **Yellow stripes on red background** (with chevrons facing the opposite direction to the other branches).

These colour distinctions help to identify the soldiers' branches at a glance, particularly during battle and in ceremonial settings.

==== Rank Structure ====

# '''Private'''
* Simple single chevron stripe, in the appropriate colour depending on the branch.
# '''Corporal'''
* Two chevrons, also colour-specific to the branch.
# '''Sergeant'''
* Three chevrons, indicating a higher level of authority within the enlisted ranks.
# '''Sergeant Major'''
* Highest enlisted rank, displayed with an emblem showing stripes and other branch-specific symbols.

=== Officers' Insignia ===

The background colour for the officers’ insignia corresponds to the branch in which they serve. The more senior the rank, the more elaborate the insignia becomes.

==== Artillery ====
* **Red background** for all officer ranks.

==== Infantry ====
* **Light blue background**.

==== Cavalry ====
* **Yellow background**.

==== Staff and Marines ====
* **Navy blue background**.

==== Commissioned Officer Ranks ====

# '''2nd Lieutenant'''
* A simple silver bar, in the appropriate background colour.
# '''Lieutenant'''
* Silver bars with an added star or symbol to signify a higher status.
# '''Captain'''
* No embellishments on the sleeves, a design distinction made to prevent confusion with the Army’s rank structure.
# '''Major'''
* A gold bar, with a more distinct emblem to signify a higher level of authority.
# '''Colonel'''
* A silver eagle or equivalent insignia, indicating the seniority of the rank.
# '''Brigadier General'''
* A single star or equivalent insignia.
# '''Major General'''
* Two stars or an equivalent symbol.
# '''Lieutenant General'''
* Three stars or an equivalent.

=== Navy Warrant and Petty Officer Ranks ===

There are no insignia for these ranks, but the seniority from highest to lowest is:
* '''Master's Mate'''
* '''Boatswain / Gunner / Carpenter / Sailmaker'''
* '''Midshipman'''

These ranks serve as the lower levels of naval command, with duties ranging from ship maintenance to minor officer roles.

=== Commissioned Officer Ranks and Insignia (Navy) ===

Starting from highest to lowest commissioned rank:

# '''Admiral'''
* The highest naval rank, represented by a series of stars or bars in gold.
# '''Vice Admiral'''
* A slightly lower rank than Admiral, represented by fewer stars.
# '''Rear Admiral'''
* The lowest rank of Admiral, displayed with a single star.
# '''Captain'''
* This rank is not embellished on the sleeves, as it predates all others in the Navy.
